The teenage years with my son were difficult. I knew they would be. It’s just the way life is. As kids get older, they stretch their wings and push their boundaries. My son was a typical teenager.

Since he was an only child, we raised him to be more independent and self-reliant. Unlike children with siblings, he would never have a brother or sister to lean on. His father and I were aware that life is unpredictable, and in case something happened to us, we wanted him to be able to stand on his own feet. This came with some bumps, as all things do.
